You can't say it in a theatre, but can you say it in a studio?

"The Scottish Play" will return to screens in a new adaptation starring Denzel Washington

Macbeth is set to return to theatres in a new adaptation of the cursed play.

William Shakespeare wrote the original story in the early 16-hundreds, which follows the life of a man, named Macbeth, who rises from a military status to being the King of Scotland.

The tale begins with a coven of witches who prophesize for Macbeth, and another military leader, after each win their respective battles against Ireland and Norway.

The trio tells them that both men will be awarded for their valor on the battlefield, which will allow them both to attain the line of Scottish royalty (Macbeth for himself, and the other man for his progeny.)

However, Macbeth becomes paranoid and highly skeptical after he and his wife plan and execute murders, allowing them to rise higher in the ranks of Scottish nobility, resulting in his kingship.

But in the end, Macbeth gets his comeuppance.

A Scottish nobleman named Macduff opposed Macbeth's tyranny and joined forces with Prince Malcom, the son of the previous king, who was in hiding after his father's murder.

This prompted Macbeth to cruelly murder the wife and children of Macduff.

Vowing revenge, a grief stricken Macduff (fortified by the army and power of the previous prince) lay siege on Macbeth's castle, and Macbeth is beheaded by his hand.

This four hundred year-old story has been re-molded for the big screen hundreds of times under dozens of names, such as Throne of Blood (1957), Men of Respect (1990) and Scotland, PA (2001) to name a few.

And under the original name in 1948, 1971, 1978 and 2015. These are a mere few.

With so many different versions out in the universe, done so many ways, how do we rank the best?

We probably can't, but we can hope that Denzel Washington nails the role and the majesty of Shakespeare's writing is not lost in the details.

Since the filming and production is delayed by COVID-19 at the moment, we wait, and reread the play anew so as to refamiliarize the mind to the famous story.

Whether it be in thunder, lightening or rain whence we meet again, what is done will not be undone.
